Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA)
Getting into a motor vehicle accident (MVA) can be pretty traumatizing. It’s really easy to build fear around driving yourself, and driving others.
Motor vehicle accidents can start to impact your self-esteem, your relationships, your physical abilities, your hygiene, motivation, and work life. Accidents can change your life in a major way. Are you noticing that you are having difficulties sleeping, or feeling motivated?
Visiting a counsellor after a motor vehicle accident (MVA) can help you manage your fears and build your self-esteem again. Sometimes the accident impacts other parts of our lives. You can discuss these impacts with your counsellor and gain support and tools to learn how to manage these changes.
ICBC usually offers people 12 counselling sessions. The first session of counselling at Revival Counselling gives the counsellor an opportunity to learn about you. We create a safe space for you to share what happened, and how this accident has impacted parts of your life. We understand that talking directly about the accident over and over again is stressful. Revival Counselling works at your pace and makes sure that you are emotionally safe throughout the sessions.
Understanding what is going on with your brain and body after an accident can be confusing. We provide you with education, tools, and resources to help reduce the confusion. This helps build confidence and allows you to take the power back over your own wellness after an accident.
We use techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Dialectic Behavioural Therapy to help manage your thoughts around fear and danger. We use mindfulness techniques to help your body feel more relaxed and safe after an accident.
You deserve to recover from an accident. We cannot imagine how your life has changed after this accident, but we will create a space to understand.
